Recently, I monitored an interesting discussion in one of the forums about the headline length of sales pages. Some of the poster's headlines will help you get the benefit of catching the opportunity you want. Other posters claimed that some headlines were too long and confusing. I'm insisting on part of it or trying to keep a rest aloud. Thinking of one poster also often appears a headline, but the executable sentence --- becomes technical.
I thought it was time to do research. I wanted to compare the headline of a profitable sales page with the headline of a disadvantage. I really wanted to find out if there was a difference in the heading length.
In order to do that survey, I had to first prepare a list of informative places and another list of futile places. I actually had both already for another study I did recently. However, many unprofitable sites have disappeared from the Internet. I was not surprised Why attach if you can not make a profit; right?
I had to settle down to compare the profitable sales page headlines to the average sales page. I used my list of informative places and counted the words and characteristics of each heading. I skipped the place without a headline. I then saw the ads site running on the main search engine for the same product or service. I counted the words and letters in the headings of the control or average group and those chosen randomly.
The results were amazing. The average sales page has a headline of only 10 words consisting of 55 characters. The informative sales page has an average of 14 words and 82 characters in the headline.
We can conclude that informative sales pages use longer headings than average sales pages. It is not so surprising.
The other findings were much more surprising. The exceptions for many data points were just a handful, and lengths longer than 150 characters were very rare. Can we conclude that very long headlines are not useful? No; there are other possibilities. However, it can be concluded that it is very rare to use headlines of more than 150 characters on profitable sales pages. In fact, 90% of the data points were within 131 characters.
That is my new recommendation. I'm going to use a heading that is at least 80 characters long and no longer exceeds 131 characters, I recommend the same to the client.
This puts me right in the middle of the correlation group for informative headlines. Your headline is an important factor to consider when you are maximizing sales. To consider There is no improvement in this study. We look forward to hearing from you.
