When I grew up, the hurricane lamp was not for decoration. We lived a little from the grid, and the electricity was sporadic. There was a bad storm, and the hurricane lamp was about the only thing you could depend on. I was quite surprised by the design at the time, but I have not done much yet. On this day, I can remember for the first time that I have seen hummingbirds before. At first, I figured out that I was seeing things. I was not sure whether I should have told my parents or not. Before it flew away, I stared at it for a while. Later, as we walked, my dad casually told me "have that hummingbird." Soon, I wanted to know all about that strange, magical flight creature. I got a hummingbird book I read from the beginning to the end
Hummingbirds are actually native to the area I lived in, but they were pretty rare. I spent many afternoons in the backyard, looking for a hummingbird, but they never came.In the end, my mother proposed to build a house of hummingbirds. I could not imagine more exciting things than having a hummingbird family in my backyard! We went out and had a kit of hummingbird's nest box that day.
