Dogs want to see and interact with people facing. This results in many dogs jumping to have that close contact. This may not be a problem when your dog is small, but a large dog can be intimidating when it jumps.
The first thing you can do to prevent jumping is to kneel to the dog level. This allows him to see your face and eliminates the main reason he jumps first.
Getting at his level informs him to meet him.
Another way you can use if the above doesn't work is to turn your back on your dog. Looking up at the ceiling, he refuses to admit him until he settles down and sits down. Dogs hate being ignored, especially if it is the reason for the first leap. For this method of working it must be immobile not to make eye contacts until he has calmed down. A slight perception is that he gets excited all over again.
The third way to seem to use larger dogs better is to wait until they jump and gently grab their front foot hold. Slowly and firmly saying "down", gently set his forefoot on the floor and walk a couple of dog's feet backwards. The dog hates walking backwards, and doing so will start him to associate the jump and the discomfort. When you put your foot on the floor, saying the word "down" can be associated with putting your foot on the floor.
As long as you are consistent with the method you chose, it will not take time to train your dog not to jump. Since everyone uses the same method, it can also help if you can involve other family members. It succeeds with this little confusion.
