Why use a humidor?

If you are not an experienced cigar smoker, you may be wondering why cigar enthusiasts use humidors. Humidor is used to preserve and protect cigars, and cigars are kept in the best flavor. Humidor works by keeping the cigar at a constant temperature between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, somewhere, and about 70-72% moisture.

Many cigar lovers claim that the ideal temperature for storing cigars is 70 degrees F. Humidor is not meant to age, but to preserve the integrity, flavor, and color of cigars.

What should I do to buy a humidor? A good humidor should keep the cigar kept out of the element well and be completely closed, with a snug lid that prevents moisture exchange. The seams should be smooth and fit well for cigars. Cedars, especially Spanish cedar, are perfect for humidor interiors. Of course, make sure your brand of cigars goes well with any humidor you are considering purchasing.
